25.04.2024I wish more than anything that Brennan was in the middle layer of Bingo. I feel like him thinking he has something over the others then getting bamboozled too would have been an amazing reaction.
@zoeroebuck5835
24.04.2024Yup, that’s how diet culture gets you. You do something for fun and you start losing weight and all of the sudden you start getting stressed that you aren’t doing enough to stay fit
@lucbloom
24.04.2024Brennan has the most predictable behaviors that are kinda unique and make him fun to watch, a semi-villain if you will.
@KattReen
24.04.2024Yeah, maybe there's something to it. "Gifted kid syndrome" is a popular topic online. Basically being good at a thing subconsciously becomes very important to your internal self-worth and identity, and unfortunately most gifted kids grow up to be perfectly average adults.
It's common for "gifted kids" to experience a sort of burnout in their teens or early 20's where for a long period of time they don't want to engage with something if they can't do it with ease and prowess, in a way where it affirms their identity and self-worth rather than challenges it. I had to work through something like that when I was younger.
I don't think it's bad parenting per se, and I don't think the parent(s) can really do that to their kid alone. It's kind of a collaboration between the parent(s) and the teachers. It's not that you need to humble your kid or anything lol, it's more that maybe you can chill out a little bit on the skill-based external validation if they're already getting a lot of it. The great thing about being a parent, is that you get to unconditionally love your kid.
Also, don't try to game your child's interests through bribes. That will make it more about the bribe than the interest. My dad did that with competitive swimming, and the constant coaxing made it feel like I was FORCED to continue with swimming practice to not disappoint or anger him.
@justinlumpkin1874
24.04.2024if Brennan knew about the bingo card he would do all of the things on it in one answer
@ChaosRaych
24.04.2024OMG I didn't know about that study! My son (13) loves drawing, so I'll be sure to give him support & encouragement without physical rewards
@dayisgay7250
24.04.2024Should have been a Brennan square for "randomly shares scientific information "
@commandercody2980
24.04.2024Did they just get Brennan to rant for the whole episode while everyone else was playing Brennan Bingo?
@MsDianagentaToYou
24.04.2024What episode is this?
@BankruptMonkey
24.04.2024It's very easy to destroy intrinsic rewards, but adult you can work hard at reclaiming hobbies that had the joy sucked out of them like this. It was shocking to realize learning could be fun again and not torture once the grades that ruined the fun were out of the equation.
@Ubernaught012
24.04.2024thought it was already kind of a known thing that adding an external motivation decreases internal motivations
@basavarajks2753
23.04.2024😂😂😂😂😂
@papamurrth1
23.04.2024The GREATEST ending in Game Changer history
@evangorski7992
23.04.2024Goddamn that monologue 100% explains my inability to write after 7th grade, my elementary school teachers LOVED my writing and it got really stressful when I had to do actual reports and shit cause I had been used to writing dumb stories about whatever came to mind, now I can’t write a single paragraph unless it’s a political argument online lmao
@jakekramer7043
23.04.2024Brennan lee bingo needs to be a actual game and i need it yesterday
@gupdoo3
23.04.2024Brennan is also describing the plot of Kiki's Delivery Service
@user-ml7vg8nt7l
23.04.2024OK the monolog over 10 seconds option was a bit cheap. I would've wanted it to be 15 seconds minimum.
@neverleftpallettown
23.04.2024Game changer is SO good
@neverleftpallettown
23.04.2024Bro every time I watch this shit I'm sohappy they survived
@dwk_1987
23.04.2024I get paid to draw and it’s not fun anymore ahah. Doesn’t need to be a kid! Just the removal of creating for creations sake is what poisons the act… once someone has control of your art or hobby and judges what is good enough to be rewarded…. It’s dead mama
@merchkerns
23.04.2024Amazing episode! Though it completely broke my heart to see Brennan shit on Elon Musk so much, he went way below the belt, and barely fulfilled the prompt.
@Charlie-Stark
22.04.2024WAIT IS THAT WHY I STOPPED ENJOYING PERCY JACKSON AFTER MY MOM DECIDED IT WOULD COUNT AS MY READING HOMEWORK (homeschooled)
@Mazapanzer
22.04.2024THE PRESSURE TO DO ART MY ENTIRE LIFE IS LITERALLY THE ENTIRE REASON WHY IM NOT IN ART SCHOOL RIGHT NOW DESPITE APPARENTLY BEING EVERY SKILLED AT ART
@henrikhendrickson2375
22.04.2024I absolutely loved this episode. It was genuinely super fun, entertaining, witty, and exciting.
@Cas_Casio
22.04.2024Love Brennan explaining intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Icon
@ts8744
22.04.2024So true. I doodled on everything constantly as a kid until people started giving me art supplies as gifts. It didn't feel right anymore.
@BoredTruckn
22.04.2024I sort of accidentally got my niece in the drawing.
Mostly because I started drawing cuz I was bored. I showed her the absolutely garbage stuff I was drawing and mentioned I was still having fun with it.
You don't have to be good add something to enjoy doing it.
She started drawing herself shortly thereafter, mostly I think because of curiosity.
Now she draws pretty casually but she's still super awesome at it.
I did compliment her drawings, but not overly so.
Just simple stuff like, oh that's cool. How long did it take? Did you need some other colors?
Just simple stuff like that.
@charleslundy7545
22.04.2024I don't know man, i like sex but if im not rewarded with more sex and especially a thank you… I don't want to hear you moan, i want legal communication, thank you. Why did polite go out the window, wheres your manners women ? 😂
@ceekay05
22.04.2024i got "youre so smart" all my life for putting too much effort so when i got to high school i tried too hard and couldnt keep up 🙃
@K_J_Coleman_Composer
22.04.2024What would be the correct solution then?
@salt7625
22.04.2024Actually….i would love erasers for drawing….please
@chrisstewart4549
21.04.2024Lmao i had a perfect example of this the other day. I walk into the bedroom and my wife was lying on her stomach playing on her phone, i sat next to her and started scratching her back. A few minutes later i stopped for a moment to check my phone and she immediately was like "wait, no, don't stop" i just looked at her and said. "I wasn't going to.. but now i don't want to"
@Ravencore_
21.04.2024Is there a "get in the comments" slot?
@DigitalDipper
21.04.2024I LOVED this episode. I was losing my mind at the first twist but then when they revealed A THIRD GROUP was playing bingo on the second group, who was playing bingo on the first group I had to take a second to stop my giggles
@zero3556
21.04.2024Difference being kids sure as hell wont seek homework as a behaviour
@__-vb3ht
21.04.2024Those studies are actually an old hat. if you are interested, Alfie Kohn has given some great talks on the subjects, and written several books. Punished by Rewards and The Case Against Competition are two books by him
@tracekerr7097
21.04.2024Got gold star on paper in 7th grade. I peeled it off and gave it back-don’t patronize me just give me the A😂
@Camille-Gwen
21.04.2024He's so right though, i remember as a kid the number of hobbies that I had dopped because my parents always made it into a chore
@yowaikemen
21.04.2024uuh, no? I would have loved my teachers give me erasers and pencils so I could continue drawing because my single parent couldn't even afford 50cents in supplies.
@Eliz_Creates
21.04.2024Fellow burnout star kids rise uuuppp!!!!
I used to be so smart!! Always got praised from it and now I’m still seeking validation from my parents and if I don’t get told good job, I freak tf out thinking that the work I did (in school, work place) is just wrong. I’m always seeking validation to ensure what I’ve done is correct and right
@33amra33
21.04.2024Mike looks so satisfied.
@statickat
20.04.2024“Don’t give kids art supplies that loves to draw, you’ll stress them out” ..That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
@Lydia13778
20.04.2024This was probably one of my favorite episodes of Game Changer ever.
@sedg83
20.04.2024I get that. As a kid, family that knew i liked art would buy me supplies i didn't know how to use and didn't want to waste…"the good stuff" and then I'd feel like i had to make something cool with it to please them, but i didn't even know how to use this or that media and back in the day you couldn't just watch a YouTube video. Yeah that's real
@thatchickcynthia
20.04.2024Looks like I'm getting dropout just for the episode (+ alien Denzel squating in a vacation home😂)
@sagejennings4342
20.04.2024That actually makes a lot of sense and happened to me when I think about it. It isn't incentivizing, if anything it feels like a threat: youre providing something TO be removed if you stop
@SergTTL
20.04.2024Wow, that's actually a good piece of information. Something to think about.
@youtubersdigest
20.04.2024That’s an interesting concept. It does sound legit but I’d personally need to see the studies that showed that
@atakiri
20.04.2024One of my absolute favorite episodes, the twist(s…? 👀) were SO good and watching the cast fall into each of their mamnerisms was a JOY
@jmlkinc
20.04.2024Did Mike Trapp also stamp 'References Fatherhood' for this monologue? Because that would definitely hold up in court.
